At our school, we’ve implemented remote locking of KS2 student iPads between 8pm and 7am—made possible through Apple School Manager and our MDM system. This is a simple but effective way to promote healthier routines for our pupils.
Sleep is essential for concentration, memory, and emotional wellbeing. By limiting device access during the late evening and early morning, we’re helping children get the rest they need to thrive.
It also supports a wider sense of balance. Without the pull of screens at night, children are more likely to read, relax, spend time with family, or wind down in ways that don’t involve technology. It helps develop good habits and teaches the importance of boundaries in an increasingly connected world.
For families, it provides reassurance that devices are secure and offline during the hours when rest matters most.
Technology should support learning—but it should also support life outside of the classroom.
